Cannes Lions 2027 planning readiness: city-wide activation and rights checks
For the 2027 edition (21–25 June) many brand programmes run across the city rather than in one venue: a beach or terrace, a villa, a dinner and street-level touchpoints. Each element needs its own rights check. We confirm venue exclusivity terms, any restrictions on branding or sampling in public spaces, music and image rights, and what the festival's own rules mean for your activity, before any creative is committed. Dates are for the 2027 edition; check the organiser's official dates for any revisions before booking.
- Venue rights, exclusivity and competing-brand restrictions confirmed in writing.
- Public-space branding, sampling and permits checked per location.
- Music, talent and image rights cleared for content you plan to publish.
- No implied festival partnership unless you hold one directly with the organiser.
What a Cannes presence has to do
Cannes Lions is crowded with invitations. A brand house earns its cost when the right clients and partners choose it over twenty alternatives and leave with a reason to keep talking. That comes from a clear purpose, a guest list worked hard in advance, and a programme people want to be seen at, not from the size of the build.
- Decide whether the goal is client hosting, talent and press, or visibility.
- Invite early and personally; walk-ups rarely fill a premium programme.
- Run one strong daily moment rather than a full timetable nobody attends.
- Plan content and follow-up so the week keeps working afterwards.
Venue rights and approvals
Beach clubs, villas, terraces and yachts in Cannes each come with their own rights and limits: exclusivity, branding permissions, capacity, catering, music and finishing times. Some need municipal or port approval, and branding near the festival can be restricted. We confirm those terms in writing before design, because a beautiful concept the venue will not allow costs time you do not have.
- Exclusive use or shared venue, and what branding is permitted.
- In-house or approved caterers, and outside-supplier rules.
- Capacity, noise and finishing times, especially for beach venues.
- Build and get-out windows, deliveries and storage on the Croisette.
Formats and who they suit
Most Cannes briefs end up as one of these. If a hosted dinner needs outreach beyond your own guest list, explore executive roundtable audience recruitment with Pearl Lemon Leads as a separate scope, without promised attendance or festival access.
- Client dinner, 12–40 guests: lowest risk, strong for senior relationships.
- Hosted daytime programme: talks or sessions in a rented space for a defined audience.
- Beach or villa takeover: visibility and hosting, with the most approvals to secure.
- Sponsored activation inside the festival: bought from the organiser, delivered inside its rules.
Scope boundaries
We produce the experience and run the guest operation. Festival passes and official sponsorship are bought from the organiser. Outbound outreach to new contacts is scoped separately by Pearl Lemon Leads. For a hosted dinner where you only need food and service, a catering-only scope can be the better fit. For catering-only briefs in London before or after the festival, see corporate event catering in London from Pearl Lemon Catering.
Lead times
The best Cannes venues for festival week are often taken many months ahead, and accommodation for crew is scarce. A client dinner may still be workable closer in; a brand house or beach takeover usually is not. We check availability before recommending a format.
Cannes Lions formats compared
| Format | Typical guests | Main dependency | Relative lead time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Client dinner | 12–40 | Private room or restaurant buyout | Shorter |
| Hosted daytime programme | 30–120 | Rented space with AV and catering | Moderate |
| Beach or villa takeover | 100+ | Venue rights, approvals, build windows | Longest |
| Sponsored activation in the festival | Varies | Organiser package and rules | Set by organiser |
Budget scope and cost drivers
Every programme is individually scoped and quoted. Cost drivers include Cannes venue rights and exclusivity, catering, build and branding, approvals, crew accommodation, staffing, freight and local taxes. Official sponsorship is a separate organiser purchase. Prices are quoted after local venue, supplier, permissions and tax feasibility. No minimum attendance/venue availability promised.
- Private dinner / hosted briefing
- A client dinner or small hosted briefing with venue, catering and staff.
- Multi-format hosted programme
- A hosted daytime programme or shorter venue takeover with sessions, catering and guest management.
- Full branded environment
- A brand house, beach or villa presence across festival week, with build, branding, approvals and crew.
